Fujifilm GS645S — The Ultimate Medium Format Travel Camera

When you think of top travel cameras, you likely don’t think of a medium-format film camera. But the Fujifilm GS645S is an exception. This camera is beloved by many film photographers for its image quality, relatively sturdy build, and surprisingly compact size.

The camera’s design includes a significant finger grip and textured rubber, ensuring a comfortable and secure hold. One of its most distinctive features is the rim-like cage surrounding the lens, providing added protection for the EBC Fujinon W 60mm F4 lens. This lens delivers sharp images with excellent color rendition and beautiful tones, making it a favorite among film enthusiasts.

As a rangefinder, the GS645S might seem a bit daunting if you’re new to this type of camera. However, the large viewfinder makes focusing easier, even for beginners. An interesting quirk of this camera is that it shoots vertically when held horizontally—a feature that aligns surprisingly well with today’s vertical content trend. The camera also includes an internal light meter, which I found to be fairly accurate during my tests. For safety, you might want to shoot with at least one stop of overexposure, but overall, the meter performs reliably.
